Bio: Calista is a rising senior at the University of Pennsylvania studying History and English with a concentration in Creative Writing and interests in law, social change, and library science. She is from San Juan, Texas and graduated seventh in her class at PSJA Early College High School in 2017. She also earned an Associates of Mathematics from South Texas College and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2017. 

 

After attending CSLAP’s summer institute as a student in 2016, she became a CSLAP Mentor and worked with CSLAP’s network to find employment during COVID-19 as a Social Media Intern for Manolo’s Best. Since arriving at Penn, she has worked as a Film & TV Beat Writer for 34th Street Magazine and a student mentor for various after-school and summer programs in West Philadelphia.

 

Calista is a Hispanic Scholarship Foundation Scholar and serves as Chair of Internal Operations for the Cipactli Latinx Honor Society at Penn (the only Latinx Honor Society in the Ivy League!) She is currently working with the Free Library of Philadelphia as a Development Operations Intern and preparing for her last year at Penn.
